“Tanah Tumpahnya Darah Kita” is a three-piece artwork installation produced in conjunction with Malaysia’s National Day, in which old war photos were recreated using locally sourced soil and sand. The project pays homage to Malaysia’s war veterans by re-enacting the personal experiences of these soldiers, such as losing fellow comrades and leaving loved ones behind to fight on the frontlines, thus capturing the essence of sacrifices endured whilst fighting for their country.
Resin and soil overlaid with layers of small rocks, leaves, wood chips, twigs and charcoal were used to recreate these scenes. In one of the more acutely personal pieces, portions of text from real letters written by a veteran to his wife were scanned and embedded into the panel, accentuating the intimate emotions attached to the visual representation of his memory.
“Tanah Tumpahnya Darah Kita”,
